It was finally his opportunity to become an unrestricted free agent and sign a multi-million dollar deal. And he couldn't have prepared himself any better, coming off a stellar 2001-02 season with Boston in which he lead the Bruins to the best record in the Eastern Conference. All of the injury questions that dogged him in seasons past disappeared as Dafoe accumulated a 35-26-3 record with a 2.21 goals-against average and .907 save percentage. A first-round playoff flameout against the Montreal Canadiens ended the season on a sour note, but surely teams looking for a standout veteran netminder would look past that.
