Extractions: NBA INTERVIEW - CHRIS WEBBER By INSIDEHOOPS.COM This is quite a year for Chris Webber. He'll enjoy a start in this year's All-Star team as a forward for the West, and this is the first NBA team he's played on that has a real chance to go deep into the playoffs. We met up with Webber the other day and discussed a number of things. Some of this is exclusive, some is not. Chris Webber on being distracted by his free agent status: I think it did distract me the first five games of the season, I wasn't having fun, I was laboring and trying not to think about it, and when you try not to think about it, you think about it, obviously. I just had to relax and let it come... and really, I don't think about it anymore, and we're having such a good season that it makes it a lot better because its just fun to be able to concentrate on the games that we're having, and trying to win every night, so that's really all I can have on my mind. But I didn't think it was going to be this big of a deal... I just try to stay focused... usually I can really have tunnel vision when I want to accomplish something and this year I wanted to come out and have a good year and I wanted us to win and advance in the playoffs, hopefully all those things will happen. So, I've just been concentrating on that, and that's been enough to worry about.
Extractions: Chris Webber : What's gone right is that we've stuck together. We started off the season 0-3. We don't lose three games in a row. We could have easily turned away then, or gotten on each other - everybody's talking about this summer and we didn't get along - that would have been the perfect time to just throw it in the tank. What's good is that we stay strong, we don't really care what people say, and we're playing good ball. So, hopefully we keep it up. What we can do better is play better on the road, definitely. And have a more consistent effort throughout the whole game, of what we're going to do. Just be more consistent.

Sixers Camps by Brian Kirschner, Sixers.com While he may have been talking about what he would say to the young guys on the 76ers team to help motivate them for Game 5, Webber might as well have been talking about himself, from experience. The Michigan native has already been tabbed with legendary status at his high school, Detroit Country Day. When the book on Chris Webber is written, the NBA is but only a few chapters of Webbers story. For more on his legend, one needs to go back to Webbers high school days when he was a tall but lanky kid reluctantly heading to prep school. Those chapters will talk about Webbers extraordinary high school career where he helped his school win three state championships. I remember the first time I met him in person, and when I shook his hand, I couldn't believe how big his hands were, Kurt Keener, Webbers high school coach and who was on hand for Gagme 2 in Detroit, recalled. He was just in eighth grade, and I have fairly large hands, I had always been able to palm a basketball, but his hands were huge. I had never seen hands that big on any human being, let alone a 14 year-old kid.

NEW FACES: In the East, former Indiana Pacers center Brad Miller was an All-Star. In the West, he's a very good addition for an already loaded team. As the 35-year-old Vlade Divac (at least that's how old he says he is) starts to slow down, Miller brings in a nice shooting touch, and his solid passing skills will help him blend right in with the Kings' motion offense. Anthony Peeler and Tony Massenburg, a pair of tough, steady thirtysomethings, also join. Hedo Turkoglu, Scot Pollard, and Keon Clark were traded, and G/F Jim Jackson was expected to depart as a free agent.
