Extractions: My favourite player. From 36 games at Golden State to the CBA, he rose against the odds to get drafted by New York in October, 1990. During the final cut at summer camp, he went all-out on a dunk on Ewing. Needless to say, he broke his arm but at least he landed a place in the team. From there he just blossomed to become an All Star guard for New York. Fearless and bold, this streaky outside shooter can match anyone trey-for-trey and dunk-for-dunk. Last year he became the first NBA player in history to can more than 200 from downtown (217). And we all know he can dunk, as he taught a flying lesson with that huge monster of a dunk he dealt to Horace Grant and Michael Jordan in the 1993 Playoffs... Ouch! Sea. Extractions: C Greg Ostertag By John Hollinger, CNNSI.com The Utah Jazz are living off two good draft picks they made in the mid-1980s. You would think they would have gotten a little help by now, but Karl Malone and John Stockton are still carrying the team. The next best scorer from a year ago, Donyell Marshall, signed with the Bulls in the offseason, and forward Andrei Kirilenko is the only other player on the roster who has anything approaching star potential. Stockton, Malone and Kirilenko are a good nucleus, but the rest is strictly filler. The center and off-guard positions are major question marks. Furthermore, the underlying impression is that the Jazz can't evaluate talent anymore. Disturbing signs keep cropping up like when they thought signing John Amaechi last year was some kind of coup, or when Jerry Sloan actually let Quincy Lewis start a

Extractions: His Story... John was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma by his mother; Irene and grandmother; Callie along with four brothers and two sisters. Because of the absence of his father, John endured some hard times growing up and money was not always available when needed. At a very young age, John knew he wanted to be a professional basketball player and worked very hard to achieve his goal of playing in the NBA. John played only one year of high school basketball and attended four colleges in four years, finally settling at Oklahoma State University. John excelled at OSU as a starter and on September 29, 1988 he signed his first NBA contract with the Golden State Warriors. Although he received little playing time and was cut from the team after just one season, he never gave up on his dream. The following year John became an All-Star in the CBA and WBL, which earned him an opportunity to try-out for the New York Knicks. On October 1, 1990 he signed with the Knicks where he played eight consecutive seasons. John returned to Golden State in 1998, played a brief stint with the Chicago Bulls in 1999 and finally signed as a free agent with the Utah Jazz on August 2, 2000.
