Extractions: NEW ORLEANS The New Orleans Hornets waived center Dale Davis and forward Glenn Robinson on Tuesday, just days after trading for the veteran players. Advertisement "Dale and Glenn have been quality players in this league for many years, but we knew when we made these trades that neither of them were a part of our plans for the future," Hornets General Manager Allan Bristow said. "By waiving them now, we can allow them to pursue an opportunity with another team this season." The Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons are among teams that have expressed interest in acquiring the 35-year-old center, who has averaged 8.5 points and 8.2 rebounds during his 15-year career. "There are some things that have to happen for the deal to be completed," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said before Indiana's game against Seattle on Tuesday night. "I don't have the latest word on it, but we're hopeful that we can get him here." Davis played his first nine seasons in Indiana from 1991-2000. He was traded in 2000 to the Portland Trail Blazers for All-Star forward Jermaine O'Neal.
Extractions: The good, the not-so-good and the inevitable is in the air as far as the Toronto Raptors are concerned this week. The good is the controversial lottery pick Charlie Villanueva looked comfortable in the Las Vegas summer league where the Raps finished up with a 2-2 record. If you read this corner often enough youll realize that not a ton of stock is put into the summer league from this point of view. Its strictly to work the young guys and fans will be pleased to hear that at least early on, Charlie looks like a learner. While there are always a few surprise developments, the guys you figured to be ballers usually are and the ones who are on the bubble stay there. Still, the summer pro leagues are also used to help develop players already defined as keepers. Villanueva averaged a respectable 17.3 PPG and 5.6 RPG in Vegas games with 16th overall pick Joey Graham chipping in 14.5 PPG and 5.5 RPG. Neither Villanueva or Graham will play in the upcoming Minnesota summer league starting Friday after suffering some injuries during the recent Los Angeles summer pro league. Villanueva has a strained groin while Graham is nursing a sprained calf. Nothing serious - more of a protection technique for the two first-rounders though they will remain in Minnesota to get treatment. Both have already signed their rookie contracts and will surely be on the roster come October. That said, the difference between now and then can be huge and Villanueva is off to a good start
