Extractions: LOS ANGELES - Perhaps because the Sacramento Kings are a small-town team, it's a real honor to be considered their biggest hick. In the locker room, the players often jokingly compare their humble beginnings - and Brad Miller usually wins. "He's the guy, and not because he's country, even though he is country," guard Bobby Jackson said. "Just because he's come from a long way back, just like me. Not many people believed in him or ever thought he could do what he's doing. "It's a rags-to-riches story. When he did it in the East, people didn't believe in him, but now he's doing it in the West. What else can he do?" Sure, this native of tiny Kendalville, Ind., feels right at home with a pitchfork in a stack of hay, as a magazine pictured him earlier in the season. Sure, the 7-foot center nearly held up the trade that brought him to Sacramento last summer when he balked at delaying a fishing trip long enough to sign his new $68 million contract. But underneath Miller's rustic exterior is a determination that hasn't waned in the sixth season of his unlikely NBA career. Miller will make his second appearance in the All-Star game on Sunday - and his first, some would argue, worth bragging about.

NEW FACES: In the East, former Indiana Pacers center Brad Miller was an All-Star. In the West, he's a very good addition for an already loaded team. As the 35-year-old Vlade Divac (at least that's how old he says he is) starts to slow down, Miller brings in a nice shooting touch, and his solid passing skills will help him blend right in with the Kings' motion offense. Anthony Peeler and Tony Massenburg, a pair of tough, steady thirtysomethings, also join. Hedo Turkoglu, Scot Pollard, and Keon Clark were traded, and G/F Jim Jackson was expected to depart as a free agent.

Ramblings about the world of Fantasy Basketball. Learn about how the latest news in the NBA will affect your fantasy hoops squad. See which players are shaping up to be sleepers and hot pickups. Brad Miller has a broken leg (from light shooting drills!?!?!?!) and will be out 4-6 weeks, although Kings officials wonder if he'll even be back for the start of the playoffs. This is obviously a huge blow to fantasy owners (including myself) who counted on Miller's terrific and incredibly steady production. The Kings seem to have an empty spot on the injured reserve, so hopefully he will be placed there soon. If you have an open spot on your IL, I guess it wouldn't hurt to stash him there if he is indeed placed on the real life IL) in the slight chance Miller plays the last week or two of the season. The only reason to cut him outright is if Brian Skinner is available (more on him later on). If Skinner's available, I'd drop Miller for him immediately, because in competitive leagues, Skinner will no doubt be picked up by another team before you can put Miller on the IL. Unfortunately, there is a catch. In Yahoo leagues that have the "Can't Cut List", you are screwed because Miller is on that list, meaning you'll either have to wait until he goes on the IL, Yahoo takes him off the Can't Cut List, or drop another player to pick up a replacement. If Skinner is not available and there are no good centers on waivers, I would wait and see if Miller goes on the IL - of the other center options are free agents now, they will probably still be there in a couple days, so you might as well wait.
