His thirty-two year Athletic Director career included twenty seven years in the City and County of Georgetown and five years in North Myrtle Beach . He is now retired and doing his basketball hobby full time. In Georgetown, teams in his program won more than thirty State Championships in all sports except Soccer. Twenty six of those teams moved on to World Series play. In addition to state titles, his teams won more than one hundred District Championships Before leaving North Myrtle Beach, his teams won nine Soccer State Titles and his baseball/softball programs had eight District Champions and Runners-up in less than five years. These are feats that had never been accomplished before his arrival. Eddie has always given the volunteer coaches and the young people all the credit for success. "I do think leadership is the key to anything good and I also believe that teams who look good and play well together have an advantage" said Oliver. Eddie has always been heavily involved in athletics, but says that his faith in God is the most important thing in his life. "I'm far from being a perfect person but I do realize that I have been blessed far beyond what I deserve. I think it's important that I share the faith I have with others and I want in some way to be worthy of all the blessings I have been given. Nothing I have or have accomplished would have ever been possible without forgiveness and God in my life leading the way" says Oliver.

Elliott had suffered kidney troubles and needed a transplant. He came back in good spirits, but his game wasn't as strong. They missed his on-court presence throughout the season. Will Purdue - Signed with the Bulls on 8/25/99. Spurs missed his inside presence although he didn't show much of one with Chicago. Terry Porter - Savvy vet who led by example, playing very well through out the season. He signed as a free agent from Miami on 8/05/99. Samaki Walker - Youthful Samaki Walker helped the front line a bit, and showed some potential when filling in for Tim Duncan during his injuries. Signed as a free agent from Dallas on 8/26/99. The defending champion Spurs had a topsy-turvy season . They finished strongly with a 53-29 season, but injuries took their toll on this team. They ended 2nd in the Midwest to Utah and advanced to the playoffs. They were 33-19 against Western Conference opponents, and had a 16-8 record within their division. They fared better at home with a 31-10 record, while on the road they finished with a 22-19 record. The Spurs faced the talented Phoenix Suns in 1st round of the playoffs, but could not regain the form of their championship run. With Tim Duncan ailing, they could not overcome the Suns. After tying the series 1-1, the Spurs fell twice, letting the Suns advance. The season saw the emergence of younger players such as

Extractions: "St. Elsewhere" Senior forward Phil Missere. (Photo credit: Brian Finke) L ast year . . . geez. When youve been playing basketball for nearly a century, the sound of rock bottom is a sickening thud. In November 2003, Willie Shaw, a senior guard, and former star Marcus Hattenin what can only be called a serious lapse of race-profile-defusing street smartswere busted for smoking pot as they sat in a white Caddy with Maryland plates outside the St. Johns off-campus players residence. Three weeks later, Mike Jarvis, the Storm coach who had led the team to twenty-win seasons in four of five years, was fired. This was no surprise, as Jarvis, who compiled a 771 record as Patrick Ewings high-school coach, had clearly worn out his welcome. Perceived as arrogant, haphazardly prepared, and a poor recruiter, the coach was heard on WFAN expressing dismay about St. Johns outmoded facilities and bitching about his $750,000 contract. Still, his dismissal caused a stir. No Big East coach had ever been fired in the middle of the season before.
