Extractions: Daily Staff And above all else, the one trend the Huskies desperately want to break tonight in Hec Ed Pavilion is losing to Stanford. The Cardinal is one of three conference teams the Huskies haven't beaten during third-year Coach Bob Bender's tenure. Arizona State and UCLA are the other two. "Really, the closest we've come and the most competitive we've played them was last year (74-65) in Palo Alto in the last game of the year," Washington Coach Bob Bender said. "It's a tough team for us to play against, and for everybody, mainly because they never beat themselves. They're a very intelligent group and they're a very experienced group." The Huskies (3-2 in Pac-10, 10-4 overall) last defeated the Cardinal (4-2, 10-4) 56-51 in Seattle in 1993, but they have a defensive strategy in mind to conquer the task at hand. "What we always use as a term is gradual movements," Bender said. "If all of a sudden, you're going to help side out here to have to go down to help on the penetration, and then have to run all the way out to close out on a shooter, we're in trouble.

Imhoff won a gold medal as part of the U.S. Olympic team in Rome in 1960, and he went on to a 12-year NBA career with All-Star Game appearances in 1966 and '67. The product of Camillus, N.Y., set a single-season assist record of 41 as a senior and became Cal's all-time assist leader with 83. Almost unheard of today, his final 440 was faster than his first, and his third 220 was fastest of all when he secured the cushion he needed to fend off Delaney with a devastation finish. At Lincoln High School in Stockton, he set the national high school 880 record, as well. Despite being injured most of his sophomore year, he nonetheless earned a place on the U.S. Olympic team in Melbourne. In 1957, he anchored Cal to a collegiate distance medley relay record and in 1958 anchored the Bears to two world-best sprint medley relay records and the world two-mile record.

Extractions: As the Charlotte Bobcats walked onto the court in the fourth quarter Tuesday night, they found themselves in unfamiliar territory, up by ten points going into the final period of play; on the road. The Cleveland Cavaliers were a good team at home last year, they are even better this season having won 13 out of 16 games prior to Tuesday nights meeting. The average margin of victory between these two teams had been just under 15 points per game, heavily in favor of the Cavs who won all three of the previous meetings. Seeing this game reminds a few of a tale told so long many moons ago. This is the tale of one King, draped with a posse of Armour bearers, ready for the war at a moments notice. Oh how the Knights burns for his position, clinging to his moves, undertaking his masterpiece. As you learn from the lines on the oaks, listen to a short January tale, One Disruptive Knight . As the King opened his court to civility and clean battle, one particular Knight; host name Brevin, continuously interrupted his flow of continuity. Officially the Knights script allotted him four points and six assists during the course of battle, scheduled one January night. As scripts go, the King, host name LeBron James, was dependent on this particular Knight paying close attention to his role, ensuring the Cavaliers took full control over the pre scripted one sided event; just after halftime. This script read much like the previous three, teasing the audience with competitive banter, until the King makes a mockery of his challengers. The Ohio viewing public would have been much
Extractions: Evans is an odd name to lead off a list of potential free agents, but since the Griz only have the mid level exception to use, hes probably one of the Grizzlies best options this summer. Evans averaged 5 points and over 9 rebounds in less than 24 minutes per game despite being a somewhat undersized power forward. Hes a young (25 years old), aggressive role player who would be a tremendous help to the Grizzlies on the boards. Evans is a restricted free agent, so the Sonics could match any Grizzly offer and they have plenty of cap room even if they sign Ray Allen to a big deal. Therefore, the Griz may have to severely overpay for Evans or attempt to work a sign and trade with the Sonics. A sign and trade could be done with a combination of players but most likely would include Stromile Swift (of course, hed have to approve). In the unlikely event that the Griz are able to deal Jason Williams, they may be in the market for a point guard and they could do worse than BK. While Knight struggled for a while when he joined the Grizzlies, once he was healthy he played well and under control. Knight knows his job as a playmaker, plays hard-nosed defense, has a nice mid-ramge jumper and has played well under Mike Fratello in the past. If the Griz are fortunate enough to get a solid rebounder/star-type player in a trade, Knight would be a solid free agent point guard acquisition.
