Mitts holds a record of 51-35 (.593) at Missouri Southern and 134-92 (.593) in eight years as a collegiate mentor. Mitts has the Lions headed in the right direction, as her 2003-04 squad turned in the best season at MSSU since 1995-96. Southern went 19-9 in '03-04 and made the program's fourth straight berth in the MIAA postseason tournament. What's more, the Lions reeled off a 7-1 February, knocking off three nationally-ranked teams in the process, and Mitts received national consideration as Division II Bulletin Coach of the Month. Mitts' squads have also been successful in the classroom. Her 2001-02 Lions were ranked ninth in the nation by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Academic Top 25. That year, Southern finished with a 3.434 GPA, a figure that placed the highest among all Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association teams. Additionally, Mitts' 1998-99 squad was No. 1 in the nation academically in NCAA Division II, and her 1999-2000 Lady Hawks were 13th. While the assistant at Rockhurst, Mitts also initiated and directed the men's and women's tennis teams. In three seasons, she led her team to a 41-14 record and two national tournament appearances. She was also named Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1996.
