Use the ratings to research free agents, identify weaknesses in your own team and evaluate trade offers. We've sorted the final list according to total AAI production. Refer to the AAI/G column to show the NBA's most productive players on a game-by-game basis who may not show up at the top of the rankings because of missed time. What the AAI Rankings should uncover are those players with big reputations among fantasy basketball owners, yet who sabotage teams with their poor production in certain categories. At the same time, we hope to uncover some "sleeper" candidates who act as great foundation players with their solid, but unspectacular contributions in each of the nine categories that most fantasy basketball leagues follow.

It's free! Save it. THE SUMMER OF HILL AND Duncan has come and gone and with it the true first period of post-lockout free-agent frenzy. In a masterstroke, the NBA allowed free agents to negotiate all of July, but not actually sign until August 1, setting up an entire offseason of mystery and intrigue better suited for Agatha than Doug Christie. By the end, though, several clear winners and losers emerged. Here's my take: WINNER: LON BABBY. The unassuming agent of both Grant Hill and Tim Duncan was going to be an automatic winner by default. Kudos goes out to him for letting his players decide where in their hearts they truly wanted to play and not letting his ego get in the way of his players' careers.

To get an idea of what the average stats for a player active on a starting fantasy roster would be I analyzed the statistics of the 120 players who averaged the most minutes played per game last season (hey ... what else are you going to do during The Lockout ... watch baseball? ... I don't think so!). The averages for 8 common statistical categories are shown in the table below. Also, to determine how the players stats were distributed above and below the averages I found the standard deviation of the 120 players for each stat category. A 'bell' shaped distribution would predict that 68% of the players would fall within one standard deviation of the average. Hang with me now ... the goal will be to determine who the fantasy basketball studs are ... not to put you to sleep! Calbert Cheany and Joe Smith managed to be in the top 120 in minutes played per game but were below average in all 8 of the categories investigated. By the way OnHoops.com readers, LJ was below average in 6 of the 8 categories! That's kind of stiff too.
