Four UConn athletes finished in the top six in the two-day event. Seven events must be completed to earn a total score in the heptathlon; a 60-meter run, the long jump, shot put, high jump, 60-meter high hurdles, pole vault and 1000-meter run. DiCola won the long jump with a mark of 7.05 meters (23-1.75), the high jump with a mark of 1.96 meters (6-5), and the pole vault with a mark of 4.85 meters (15-11). UConn All-American Will Thomas (South Kingstown, RI) took first in the 60-meter dash, the shot put and high jump, but was disqualified in the pole vault and did not compete in the 1000-meter run. Chris Carter from the University of Pennsylvania won second place, and UConns Chad Caldwell (Bayport, NJ) finished third. UConn also took fourth and fifth with Mike Delgado (Bridgewater, MA) and Sean Berg (Groton, CT) taking the spots, respectively. The mens track and field team will take the rest of the month off, and return to action on Friday and Saturday, January 9-10 at the Yale Invitational.
