The articles that have come out today suggest that the suspension (and so-called "third strike") could lead to the termination of Baker's contract. Not all the facts are in yet, but so far, this smells fishy. The Celtics have much to gain from voiding Baker's contract. There's clearly a conflict of interest here. A little background for non-Celtics fans: the Celtics traded for Vin Baker and his gigantic contract during the 2002 offseason despite his precipitous decline. In his best season, Baker averaged 21.0 points and 10.3 rebounds, but such glory seemed long gone, as the player the Celtics acquired was coming off four seasons of overweight mediocrity.
