Extractions: Freshman forward Shawn James recorded the first triple-double in school history with 17 points, 12 rebounds and a school-record 11 blocks en route to leading Northeastern to a 76-61 win over Iona Thursday, Dec. 30 at Solomon Court in the Huskies' final non-conference game of the season. Already having registered 17 points and 11 boards, James rejected Gary Springer with 1:08 to play for his 10th block of the game. He added another block and rebound before the end of the game to put the finishing touches on one of the greatest individual performances in school history. The 11 swats shatter James' own school record of seven and are tied for the second most in the America East annals. Vermont's Kevin Roberson blocked 11 shots against Dartmouth Jan. 21, 1990. Roberson holds the conference record for blocks in a game with 13. In just eight games, James has 45 rejections, the third most in NU history. Northeastern relinquished the lead just once, when Springer's jumper gave his team a 14-13 lead with 11:12 remaining in the first half. Sophomore forward Bennet Davis put in a layup 25 seconds later, and the Huskies never trailed after that.

The Jazz improved to 4-0 Monday night with a 102-91 win over the Denver Nuggets , sweeping the home-and-home series and topping 100 points for the fourth time this season. Utah hadn't opened with four straight 100-point games since 1995-96, when the Jazz topped 100 five times during a 4-1 start. "I'm not worried about that. I'm just worried about winning," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "But from a fan standpoint, I wouldn't mind getting five or six." Mehmet Okur had his best game since joining Utah with 12 points and nine rebounds, Jarron Collins scored 12 and Raja Bell added 17 points in a reserve role.
