Extractions: COMMENTARY Ray Glier NBCSports.com contributor Ray Glier Keep that *asterisk* handy. There are agents out there, lurking, who will tell very good college players they can get guaranteed money in the NBA draft. Pssst. It's not all true, kids. Think ahead. In the meantime, we will try and handicap the 2005-06 college basketball season and provide some insight on what teams to look for while we watch for underclassmen to foolishly declare for the draft. Things could change if the not-ready-for-the-NBA players (that's a lot of them) take the bait of agents and declare for the draft. So where do we start? Villanova, for one. North Carolina was a shoe-in for another Final Four until Sean May, Raymond Felton, Rashad McCants and Marvin Williams all declared for the NBA Draft. I wonder what might have happened if 'Nova forward Curtis Sumpter had stayed on stage and played on? I wonder what might have happened if Allan Ray had rediscovered his jump shot to go with his pesky defense?
Basketball Q&A With Ray Fittipaldo basketball Q A with ray Fittipaldo. Friday, February 25, 2005 Villanova has such a player in Allan ray. Pitt does not have an answer. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05056/462399.stm
Extractions: Sports Pitt/Big East Basketball Football ... College BB/W Friday, February 25, 2005 Click here to submit your question Q: Are Pitt's problems related to the fact that the Panthers play to the level of their competition? Or is it a lack of preparation for the opponent? How can Pitt lose games against teams like West Virginia, Villanova, Georgetown and St. John's and then beat Connecticut and Syracuse on the road? Paul Sylba of Oakmont FITTIPALDO: Q: Can you please explain to me how Pitt can lose to West Virginia twice in a season? This is the most frustrating Pitt team I've seen in a while. Bob from South Fayette FITTIPALDO: I don't have a good explanation, Bob, other than Kevin Pittsnogle is a Panther killer. He scored 49 points in the two games. If he doesn't have the games of his life against Pitt, the Panthers win both games. I'm sure it is frustrating watching this team. There has been no semblance of consistency all season. They look like world beaters one game and then the next game they look like a bunch of underachievers. There isn't anyone out there, including Jamie Dixon, who can tell you how this team is going to respond in the last three games. Your guess is as good as mine and probably Dixon's. Q: Is Pitt a lock for the NCAA tournament right now? If not, what does Pitt's record have to be to guarantee a bid? Also, do you know when the Big East will release the 2005-06 schedule. I'm anxious to see if the Panthers will play out here in Chicago or Milwaukee next year.

Sean May dominated the paint to the tune of 24 points and 17 rebounds, as he shot 8-of-9 from the floor. As for sensational freshman Marvin Williams, he contributed 20 points and 15 boards off the bench. Rashad McCants posted 17 points from his small forward position, and point guard Raymond Felton tallied 15 points to go along with eight assists. UNC played tremendous defense in the contest, limiting the Cyclones to just 35.5 percent shooting from the field. Marvin Williams led the Heels with 20 points in the first- round romp over Oakland, while May added 19 points and McCants pitched in with 16. May, McCants, Felton, Jawad Williams and Marvin Williams are all averaging double figures in scoring this season, and there is not a better group of five players on any team in the nation.
