Texas Rangers Fantasy Baseball Report For ESPN By Scott Lucas justin thompson is the former phenom acquired from Detroit in 1999. Thanks toperpetual shoulder problems, thompson hasn t pitched in a Major League game in http://www.scottlucas.com/texas/030218.htm
Extractions: The excitement of watching premier athletes players stretch and jog wears off fast, doesn't it? The initial thrill of Spring Training always dissolves into the unfortunate reality that for the first two weeks or so, almost nothing interesting happens. In a sense, no news is good news, as newsworthy events this early in camp usually involve injuries. Ranger hitters reported to camp Monday and the team will hold its first full-squad workout Tuesday. Later this week, I'll begin lengthy assessments of the Rangers' lineup. For now, another general interest column. A Man To Watch ESPN rates CARL EVERETT as just the 80th-best outfielder in mixed leagues, and who can blame them. Everett has averaged only 120 games and 493 plate appearances per season during the last seven years, and he was as useful as lint for three months last year. However, hit very well after last year's All-Star break (.929 OPS), and he's heather than he's been in almost two years. Right now, I'm predicting a .270 average, 65-70 runs, 75-80 RBI, and 25 homers; nothing drool-worthy, but worth a late-round pick in mixed leagues and a middle-round pick in AL-only leagues. I would choose Everett in a heartbeat over higher-ranked OFs like Terrence Long, Chris Singleton, Rob Mackowiak, Eric Owens, and Timo Perez. If you're not too risk-averse, move him up your cheat sheet.

And our family was complete, with a 2 year old daughter named Taylor. Life couldn't get any better. I am a stay at home mom, and spent all my time with my children. My life was my children. Justin was always happy, always had a smile on his face. Taylor and Justin had such a special bond, the bond only a brother and sister have. And the bond I shared with him can never be replaced. My husband Wayne was so happy to finally have a boy. Someone to teach baseball, and to take fishing. But never in a million years did I think something so tragic could happen. It was Wednesday night June 19, 2002, and my husband called me to tell me Justin was running a fever of about 103, I told him to give him tylenol, and give him a cool bath. So he did, his fever was going up and down all night. I thought he was teething, he had no other signs of anything else. Finally, Thursday June 20, 2002 at 5:00 a.m. I couldn't take him lying in his crib whimpering. I called the pediatrician on call, he said give him some motrin, and give him a cool bath. As I was undressing Justin I noticed purple spots on his leg. My husband called back the doctor and he said to take him to the emergency room right away and at 5:30 a.m. we arrived at the ER. I never

As camps open in Florida and Arizona, players test the four R's of an injury: repair, recovery, rehab and return It's, easy to connect the dots between spring and players recovering from injuries. Yet that ignores the reality of the pure, unadulterated grunt work required this winter of, say, Pirates catcher Jason Kendall, who is working to overcome an injury so grotesque that players had to look away when his ankle shattered last July 4. Elbows and knees freshly repaired and ligaments transplanted have nothing to do with spring's lush, green fields, unless you consider that now, finally, these players will reap what they've sown during December's rehab.

Extractions: B randon Kvidt felt a lot of satisfaction watching Zach Kvidt and his Thompson teammates win the North Dakota Class B high school baseball tournament this spring. There also was a trace of envy for his younger brother. "I was extremely happy for Zach," Brandon Kvidt said. "I've done it before, when we won state in Legion in 2002. It's a lot of fun. "Of course, you always want to be out there playing yourself." The Kvidt brothers and their Thompson teammates may get a chance to share a state title this week. Thompson, as well as Grafton, will compete in the North Dakota Class B American Legion baseball tournament, which begins Wednesday in Beulah. Winning has become synonymous with this group of Thompson baseball players. Almost every member of the team has been a part of a state championship - be it this spring's state high school tournament, the 2002 Legion state tournament or Babe Ruth state titles.

Those questions were answered as the 2004 squad set a school record with 29 wins, finished fifth in the tough Georgia Alabama Carolina Conference and entered the conference tourney with a number four seed.
