Extractions: to replace Pat Robertson and Ralph Reed A s right-wing watchers know by now, the Christian Coalition recently announced its new management team. By the time Pat Robertson held his press conference last month, the news had already leaked that Ralph Reed's replacement would be Randy Tate, a former member of Congress from Washington state. An Associated Press story ran on Tate's appointment the night before that was carried in many newspapers around the nation. But again displaying the Christian Coalition's media mastery, Robertson stepped to the microphone with one further piece of news, that he was stepping down as president of the group to become the Chairman of the Board, and that Don Hodel, former Secretary of Interior and Secretary of Energy in the Reagan Administration, would take over as president. The result of the choreographed leak, two-step announcement was a second newspaper story on the Christian Coalition's leadership change in newspapers around the nation. If Don Hodel's presence gets the

Starting off with the league that I was the commissioner of, I didn't pay any attention to my team because it was terrible. Quickly moving on to my other team, I'd like to point out that I had one of the strongest teams in the league, but failed to make the World Series partly because of a tough schedule, but mostly because I forgot to start Randy Johnson on the day he pitched a one-hitter. Despite 17 of my 20 picks being absolute busts (to give you an idea, think Billy Koch in the 11th round), I was able to recover through a few key trades that I was able to make. The most notable being: I Give Roy Oswalt, Ugueth Urbina, Larry Walker, and Magglio Ordonez

Extractions: The Mets, and perhaps all of baseball, will never have another like Tom Seaver. Simply rattling off his Mets stats doesn't properly do justice, but here goes: 198-124, 2.57, 3,045 IP, 401 games, 395 starts, 171 complete games, 44 shutouts, 2,541 strikeouts. All lead the Mets all-time lists, and probably won't ever be seriously challenged. More importantly, Seaver (1967-77, 83) brought the Mets credibility, which as history has proven, isn't easy to come by in Flushing. They hardly deserve mention, but pitchers Clem Labine Grover Powell Jim Bethke (1965) and Gordon Richardson (1965-66) warmed up 41 for Tom. They combined for a 5-5 lifetime record. Major League Baseball in 1997 officially retired 42 from every team in honor of groundbreaking Brooklyn Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson. While no 42s in Mets history approached that category, clownish righthander Roger McDowell (above, 1985-89) will be remembered by Mets fans for his contributions, including 12 wins in relief in 1986. With a 9-4, 2.74 out-of-the-bullpen performance in 1969, Ron Taylor (1967-71) played a role similar to McDowell's for the 1969 World Champions.

April 16, 2001 SEATTLE - The 61 individuals that have been named to the Husky Baseball All-Century Team will be honored at a banquet this Saturday, April 21, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Founders Club at Bank of America Arena. The team, which includes 58 players and three coaches from the first 100 years of University of Washington baseball, was selected via input from fans, former players and former and current coaches. Included on the team are nine individual members of the Husky Hall of Fame, as well as five players that were inducted as part of the 1959 team. The list also includes eight Huskies that went on to play in the major leagues, dating back to Royal Shaw, who played briefly with the 1908 Pittsburgh Pirates. Sammy White, who spent most of the 1950s as the Red Sox starting catcher, and longtime Seattle Mariner Mike Blowers are also included.
