Extractions: Contributing Writer If ESPN would do a documentary on a typical Northern League baseball player, it might want to take a long look at Kansas City T-Bones pitcher Jonathan Krysa. Hometown high school star and college All-American, Krysa spent two years in the Houston Astros farm system and a year in the independent Central League in Texas before becoming one of the first players to sign with the T-Bones. "I thought it was kind of a joke when my dad told me about their being a minor league team in Kansas City," Krysa said. "Knowing baseball I didn't think two teams in one city could survive, but I didn't know it would be so far out in Kansas. I got back from Texas and called Al (manager Al Gallagher) and got my resume together, went to spring training and made the team and I've been here ever since." His first season shortened by arm surgery, he set three Northern League records last year and now has shifted to the role of closer - all in the hopes of getting another chance of "getting to the show." "That's what everyone is here for," says Krysa, a former Lee's Summit High School star who turned 27 on Aug. 27.

Extractions: all-baseball.com , part of the most valuable network , presents: Baseball Editorials, Analysis, and Talk from Richard Lederer by Richard Lederer Passing the time watching the Boston Red Sox-Baltimore Orioles game Sunday night on ESPN2. Top of the first inning The Yankees and Devil Rays kicked off the season in Japan and now Baltimore hosts Boston. Has Cincinnati played yet? Bottom of the first Tejada flies out to center field. Johnny Damon throws the ball back to the infield weakly, and it reminds me of a thought I had last October. Has there ever been a worse-throwing group of CF in the final four than Damon, Bernie Williams, Kenny Lofton, and Juan Pierre? Palmeiro singles to left but Ramirez throws out Mora going from first to third base. Cincinnati shortstop Pokey Reese makes a great play to beat Mora to the bag, and the latter does the unthinkable by running into the final out of the inning at third. Top of the second inning Bottom of the second With first base open, Martinez drills David Segui in the back. Not surprisingly, the Baltimore fans begin to boo Pedro. Larry Bigbie taps the ball back to the mound, Pedro picks it up, looks at second, and then throws awkwardly and wildly to first. Gibbons scores. Luis Matos singles to left, scoring Segui and sending Bigbie to third. Baltimore 3, Boston 0.

Major League Baseball Showdown Major League baseball. You play baseball. With (and this is the tricky part) 460 david segui C 461 Shannon Stewart C 462 david Wells C S1 Bad Call C http://www.rpweld3.com/reviews/mlbshow.html
Extractions: Game Play: Before we get started, I have to get this off my chest: I don't like baseball. I don't watch baseball. And I couldn't care less about baseball. On the other hand, I like this game! I've played a lot of really bad sports games for these reviews and this one of the best so far. It's not Fastbreak, whose twisted sense of humor appeals to me, but it is a heck of a lot better than RedZone or Top of the Order. In MLBS2000 (long name, huh?) you assemble a team made out of various Player cards, just as you would a real baseball team. Them, you and your opponents play a simulated game of baseball. The mechanics are lightning fast. The pitcher rolls a twenty-sided die and adds the number to his "Control" stat. If that is higher than the batter's "On Base" stat, the pitcher has the "Pitcher's Advantage," and if not, the batter has the "Batter's Advantage." Once the pitcher has determined this, the batter's player rolls the die and consults a chart. Which chart? Well, if the pitcher has the advantage, look at the chart on the pitcher card. If the batter has the advantage, look at the chart on his card. The charts list results such as Single, Double, Triple,Homer, Walk and Out. Each result has a number. If the batter rolls a 15, it may be a result of Out on the pitcher card, but a result of Single on the batter. It all depends on who has the Advantage. This mechanic takes approximately twelve seconds to master.

Extractions: BOSTON REX SOX CHICAGO WHITE SOX CLEVELAND INDIANS CF Milton's Bradley, a mystery most of his career, has been the team's best player. He hit in the first 10 games and is playing well defensively. Bradley is more selective at the plate and is going the other way. He also is giving consistent effort, which hasn't always been the case.... RHP Jason Davis has been overthrowing. That has led his fastball to be wild and his breaking pitches to be flat. Davis, who can hit the mid-90s, has a good enough arm to be effective by throwing naturally. SEE A DIFFERENT GAME: During one 20-inning stretch that underscored a poor offensive start, the team scored three runs. Two of the runs came on solo homers, the other on a bases-loaded walk. The offense has little power or speed (five homers and four stolen bases in the first 10 games), so it needs to manufacture runs. Too many hitters have been swinging early in the count.Steve Herrick
