Extractions: By BILL MADDEN Tim Hudson will be doing the Tomahawk Chop on NL East opponents this season after joining the Braves. (Illustration by Ed Murawinski) It happens every spring at least for the last 13 of them. Atlanta Braves GM John Schuerholz listens to the reasons why his team won't finish first. After 13 straight first-place finishes, Schuerholz has come to relish this annual exercise, although this spring he's had to dig a little deeper in his explanations. Schuerholz is convinced that oft-injured Raul Mondesi and Brian Jordan will provide enough offense in the corner outfield spots to make up for the loss of free agent J.D. Drew's 31 homers and 93 RBI. But Jordan has been on the disabled list 13 times since 1993 and Mondesi missed most of last season with personal problems in Pittsburgh and a torn quadriceps with Anaheim. And then there is John Smoltz, whom the Braves are counting on to make a successful return to starting after nearly four years as their closer. Smoltz looked like his dominant self all spring, but as Bobby Cox's designated No. 1 starter ahead of prize winter acquisition Tim Hudson, it cannot be ignored that he hasn't pitched over 200 innings in a season since 1997.
The Baseball Guru - MLB FOREIGN EXPANSION By Craig Tomarkin Mexico, Monterrey Opportunity They love baseball and hosted a MLB game on opening day Dominican Republic, mondesi, raul, Puerto Rico, Mantilla, Felix http://baseballguru.com/ctomarkin/analysisctomarkin09.html
Extractions: MLB FOREIGN EXPANSION by Craig Tomarkin It all started when the Montreal Expos debuted in 1969. They made their first and only post season appearance in strike shortened 1981, with a 60-48 record. Andre Dawson and Gary Carter were the team's hitting stars and they managed to beat the Phillies three games to two in the opening playoff series. In Game 5, Steve Rogers pitched a shut out for them against Steve Carlton to win it. They were unable to outlast the Dodgers in the next series though as Fernando Valensuela allowed only 3 hits in 8 2/3 innings to beat them 2-1 in a thrilling come from behind Game 5 victory. As of 2002, we are still waiting for them to make a World Series appearance. The Toronto Blue Jays were the second foreign team to join the MLB in 1977. Again, a team from Canada. This franchise proved to be stronger than the Expos. They first made the playoffs in 1985 and again in 1989. The team soon became a force, making the playoffs three straight years from 1991 to 1993. The last two seasons they won back to back World Series, establishing them as the first foreign team to build an MLB dynasty. Who will follow as the next foreign team? Will it be another team from Canada or will another country step to the plate?

Collinization: Raul Mondesi But it s still raul mondesi. He has one of the best arms in baseball, regardless of what kind of slump he s in he s got a good bat, and for his size he has http://collinization.mu.nu/archives/000583.html
Extractions: Main So last night the Yankees traded Raul Mondesi for an old catcher's mitt and an autographed picture of Don Knotts. The guy had an attitude problem, he wasn't a team player, so he had to go. I can respect that. But it's still Raul Mondesi. He has one of the best arms in baseball, regardless of what kind of slump he's in he's got a good bat, and for his size he has decent speed. So the Yankees go ahead and trade him for a single a pitcher and an average at best outfielder. What's going on in your head Cashman? I know you wanted to dump the guy, but you could've got a valuable player for him. For chrissakes, you dumped him so that Garcia and Pride could get more playing time, and you trade him for another outfielder who isn't as good as he is?! Fucking brilliant. I don't know what's going on in the Yankee organization anymore. They need bullpen help, and they stand by and watch Boston pick up every decent arm that's on the trading block, and you get fucking Armondo Benitez and Jesse Orosco. Which reminds me: It's wednesday, and Armondo Benitez still sucks.

Yeah,Yeah,Yeah. Extractions: Main Jayson Stark reports that the Mariners might be interested in Raul Mondesi . This is the second or third time I've seen Mondesi's name attached to the Mariners in the last week. Mondesi has had run-ins with managers in the past, but he got better reviews during his stint in Arizona. The Pirates, however, ran out of patience with Mondesi this year as his troubles in the Dominican Republic lingered on. Update (5:26 p.m.): It sounds like Mondesi might be leaning toward Anaheim, Boston or Baltimore "There are other clubs interested in me, but I want a team that has an opportunity to advance to the postseason," he said. That seems to rule out the Mariners. Posted by Mike Thompson at May 26, 2004 12:48 PM
