As I was completing the overall pick project on Baseball Almanac (http://www.baseball-almanac.com), I began to wonder who else was drafted in that same range so I put together the list below. IMPORTANT NOTE: This list shows players who were selected with an overall pick greater than 999 THAT SIGNED. Note the emphasis on those last two words as there have been many players drafted in the 1,000's who did not sign, but instead chose to wait for a higher pick thus giving them a higher signing bonus. I chose to include only those who did sign:

Extractions: Comments Let me just say, as a Braves fan, that the play by Fick was appaling. I am personally embarassed that he was wearing a Braves uniform when that happened. Thankfully Karros wasn't hurt, as witness by that BLAST the next inning off Cunnane. I pray that Old Man Franco gets the start tomorrow. Even if he doesn't get a hit, he always has productive at-bats. Chipper, on the other hand, I got to give it up for Larry. Two bombs, one from each side - that's nice! Don't worry Ruz, my wife hates Chipper's guts too. Every time he comes to the plate, she is always dropping a "cheater" or "adulterer" on him. Posted by: Brad at October 4, 2003 07:07 PM Good wrap-up. My wife asked me if Fick was going to be fined. Could this be something that Selig would act on overnight, or would they wait until the next series to see if he should be barred from any games? My first thought for Fick's fine would involve him covering first and have Randall Simon sliding into first spikes up. If Fick does have to face Wood on Sunday, I'm afraid that Woody would plunk him and then the ump would throw Woody out - where would that leave the Cubs? Paging Sammy Sosa, would Sammy please come to the help desk and claim a few dingers! If you had told most anyone before the series that the Cubs would be tied 2-2 with only one RBI from Sammy (in a loss), they probably wouldn't have believed you. I know we have been living with this lack of offensive production most of the season, but to have this (at best) average Braves pitching staff keep the Cubs to about 3 runs a game is frustrating.

Duke Magazine-We Apologize, By Robert J. Bliwise-May/June 2004 Pete Rose is sorry he bet on baseball, and contrition seems a fine criterion jones is particularly troubled by a telling quote in Rose s book I m sure http://www.dukemagazine.duke.edu/dukemag/issues/050604/apologize1.html
Extractions: It's all about me. Maybe it should be about an authentic understanding of sin, repentance, and forgiveness. ho is sorry now? Just about everyone, it seems. Illustration by Philippe Lechien/ Morgan Gaynin Inc. Pete Rose is sorry he bet on baseball, and contrition seems a fine criterion for joining that little club called the Baseball Hall of Fame. Bill Janklow, at the time a Congressman from South Dakota, is sorry for speeding, running a stop sign, and running down a motorcyclist. Boston's Cardinal Bernard Law is sorry for not acting more decisively on allegations of child abuse by Roman Catholic priests. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is sorry"deeply sorry"for his behavior toward women in his past life as a movie star. Connecticut Governor John Rowland is sorry for inconveniently lying about accepting gifts from state contractors. Remember that Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction"? Entertainer Janet Jackson told a press conference, "If I offended anybody, that was truly not my intention." So much for the exemplary bare-basics apology. As cultural commentator Frank Rich noted in The New York Times, Jackson refused to appear on the Grammys broadcast rather than "accede to CBS's demand that she perform a disingenuous, misty-eyed ritual 'apology' to the nation for her crime of a week earlier." By contrast, Justin Timberlake, her pop-star partner in that crime, apologized ritually if not convincingly, "looking like a schoolboy reporting to the principal's office," in Rich's words.
Shock Balk: Controversial Call Upset Buehrle Atlanta Braves manager bobby Cox is Ozzie Guillen s role model, But Guillensaid that was the culmination of several things jones did wrong that day, http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-ssep11.html
Extractions: Cool tempers might be as important as good fundamentals to the White Sox as the heat of the playoff race rises. A sign of that came Friday night after a controversial balk called against left-hander Mark Buehrle contributed to the Los Angeles Angels' two-run fifth inning. "I think he let it get to him,'' manager Ozzie Guillen said of Buehrle, who was visibly upset at the call. It allowed Chone Figgins to advance to second base, and Orlando Cabrera then singled Figgins home. The umpire who made the call was Dan Iassogna, not Tim Welke as originally listed. Iassogna's crew was a late replacement. "He never gets mad at anything,'' Guillen said of Buehrle, "but this time, he did.'' Guillen appealed to Iassogna when the balk was called, but to no avail.

Extractions: Join the talk! One of the most popular and successful pitchers in Fresno State history, Bobby Jones on Friday agreed to return to the program as the Bulldogs' pitching coach. Jones replaces Tim Montez, who resigned after assisting Mike Batesole for three years. The hiring, in an agreement among Jones, Batesole, new athletic director Thomas Boeh and school President John Welty, is on a one-year interim basis while Jones resumes his education in pursuit of a degree, which is required to be a coach. "My school work will be re-evaluated at the end of the year," Jones said. "I will be doing online school to finish my degree, and that's another great thing. I'm thankful for Dr. Welty and Thomas Boeh allowing me a chance to do this because they really didn't have to."
