Pardon This...and That!!! If you like baseball and like the idea of being able to run a franchise from 1900on into 2100 jeff conine has come in to pinch hit for the pitcher. http://www.pardonthat.com/
Extractions: March 23 Sorry its been a few days. Spring Break and all. Anyway I just wanted to get on here and advertise for 2 baseball text sims that need your help to survive. If you like baseball and like the idea of being able to run a franchise from 1900 on into 2100 check out wither Puresim or Baseball Mogul 2006. You can even use real players in either one of these games and draft incoming players for the next year. For example if I was playing as the Cubs in 1994 I could draft Alex Rodriguez and see how he does on my team. Anyway either of these games are fun and both have demos you can try before you buy. In the next few days I may do further reviews for these games if interest is shown. Puresim is much more detailed than Baseball Mogul . Mogul is easier to pick up and play 20 years in one sitting. If your slow and methodical and like seeing your players progress over their 20 year career try out Puresim and if you like seeing if you can make the Cubs win the World Series 10 times in one hour then try out Baseball Mogul . Better yet try out both! These games are both developed by small one man programmers that would love your business and help them to produce more content.

Extractions: January 11, 1999 This article takes a look at how the Kansas City Royals did in the 1998 season relative to pre-season expectations. For an overview of the approach used in this review, and a definition of some of the key terms and statistics, please see the overview page called 1998 Team-by-Team Performance Reviews Projected Actual Runs for 752 714 Runs allowed 785 899 Run Margin -33 -185 Wins 76 72 Pythagorean wins 78 62 Placement 2nd 3rd The Royals had another bad off-season prior to last year. They lost their two best hitters, Jay Bell (their 1997 Player of the Year) and Chili Davis, to free agency; Kevin Appier, their best pitcher, had two operations and was lost for almost the entire year. They added Hal Morris, trying to come back after a poor injury-shortened season in Cincinnati, and Jeff Conine, who was traded after a bad year with the World Champion Marlins. While it might seem as if we came close (76 to 72 wins) in our prediction for the Royals last season, we were actually far too optimistic. Kansas City both hit and pitched far worse than we had anticipated. They had the biggest difference in baseball between their pythagorean wins (how they should have done considering the number of runs they scored and allowed) and their actual wins. This was due to a 17-16 record in one-run games and a 15-41 record in blowouts (games decided by 5 or more runs). Simply put, the Royals should have lost 100 games in 1998, and they could actually improve quite a bit next year and still finish with a poorer record.

The American squad would go 9-3 in the desert. As always, many brought potato salad to the U.S.A. offensive picnic. Twins C Joe Mauer went 2-for-3 with a triple, 2 runs scored, and an RBI, Indians CF Grady Sizemore was 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored, Blue Jays RF Gabe Gross went 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored and an RBI, A's DH Graham Koonce was 2-for-4 with a run scored and 2 RBIs, and Tigers DH Ernie Young went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Mauer continues to shower hits, hitting .481 overall. Can't stop, won't stop. Sizemore hit only, ohhhh, .472 in 11 games. Koonce has been the biggest surprise for Team U.S.A., leading the team in RBIs (12) and total bases (29). The 28-year-old hit .654 and slugged 1.115. Crazy in the coconut. Braves LHP Horacio Ramirez would earn the victory for Team U.S.A. yesterday, spinning 2 scoreless innings of relief. Ramirez is going to be a very key guy for the Americans. Braves LHP

Extractions: Selected by Florida in the 1993 expansion draft, Conine was one of only two original Marlins on their World Championship team of 1997. But by the time the team reached the World Series their two-time All-Star had become a platoon player. Just weeks after Florida's dream season came to an end, Conine was traded back to the Royals, the team from which the Marlins had originally plucked him. Nicknamed "Conine the Barbarian" in the minors, the right-handed slugger was named the Southern League MVP in 1990. The Royals' first baseman of the future made a brief appearance with the big-league club, but suffered a broken left wrist. Recuperating from off-season surgery, Conine was unable to replace the ailing

Extractions: JEFF CONINE G AB H HR TB R RBI TBB IBB SO HBP SH SF SB CS SB% GIDP AVG OBP SLG SEASON SUMMARY Only one player who spent time with the Orioles in 2001 had a better offensive year than Jeff Conine and that was David Segui...and since Segui missed half the season with injury while Conine was available for virtually every game, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that Jeff Conine was the Orioles best offensive player last season. Of course, that's damning with faint praise. But Conine did have a solid offensive year overall. He posted a solid .633 OWP, and OPS of .829, he hit .311, he created about 6.4 runs per game. The team may have a lot of other problems with the bats, but at least they have a solid performer to build around, explaining why the Orioles picked up Conine's option for 2002, right? Well... While it was a solid season for Conine, who really didn't become an everyday player for the Orioles until May 18 and then spent time at first base (80 games), left field (22), third base (17), right field (16) and designated hitter (12), it's not all peaches and cream. First, Conine turns 36 in June of the coming season. That's pretty long in the tooth to be a centerpiece of a team and it brings inevitable questions about how fluky last year might be.

Florida shifted phenom Miguel Cabera from left field to third base to replace Lowell defensively, but that still left a gaping hole in the lineup. The Marlins plugged it Sunday night by acquiring Jeff Conine from the Orioles for two of their best pitching prospects, righthanders Denny Bautista and Don Levinski. Conine will be eligible for postseason play should Florida qualify. The Marlins paid a stiff price for Conine. Before the July 31 deadline for trades without waivers, other teams had been told that both Bautista and Levinski were untouchable.
