He was named AL Player of the Week by MLB for the past two weeks. This past week has pushed his totals up to a .302 BA, and put him into the top 5 in the AL for home runs, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage, and extra base hits. It looks like Albert Belle has finally regained his Cleveland Indians form, and is earning his salary in Chicago (well, almost). The only thing to mar Belle's torrid week was being arrested on Sunday. He was arrested for allegedly beating a woman, and then ripping her phone of the wall as she tried to call for help. Belle claims that there is no validity to the charge. Yeah right Albert. This is certainly not Belle's first physical altercation. One does not have to think back very far to remember a group of kids being chased down the street by the slugger, for egging his house on Halloween. Or how about when he was fined for going into a fit of rage and spewing obsceneties at reporter, Hannah Storm. Last but not least, I'm sure Fernando Vina can still feel the bruises he received after being decked on the basepaths by Belle. But remember, it has been a great week for Albert Belle. Let's just hope that he can limit his beatings to American League pitching.

I know there was no more dangerous hitter in the game from about 1994-1996. I personally attended at least ten games in that three year stretch at Jacobs Field that he won with home runs in the Indians' last at bat. And I'm also aware that being a complete asshole is not a disqualifier for election to the Hall of Fame. And since the Hall of Fame has now become a place that elects not only players who were great, but also players who were simply good, but for a very long time, I say why not elect a guy who was truly great just for a while.
