A native of McVille, ND, Anderson played on two conference championship teams at VCSU while also setting a school record for pitching wins in a season in 1986, just recently broken by one of his players, Eric Olson in 1999. In 1987, Anderson helped the Vikings advance to their first-ever NAIA Regional Tournament. Anderson was named all-conference in 1986. While attending VCSU Anderson was also a member of two conference football championship teams as a punter and quarterback. The 1988 football team advanced to the NAIA playoffs. Anderson began coaching football at VCSU in 1991 as a secondary coach before becoming the offensive coordinator for the Vikings in 1994 and helping them to conference championships in 1996 and 2000, and national playoff appearances in1996, 2000 and 2001.
