Who Should They Have Taken? - 1992 tommy vardell, RB Stanford, DE Robert Porcher (1st), South Carolina St Johnny Mitchell spent too much time looking in the mirror to play football. http://collegefootballnews.com/Almanac/Draft/Shouldve_1992.htm
Extractions: I love the NFL draft for the fun of watching the college players realize their dream to hit the big time, the instant betterment of the teams and most of all, the second guessing. Here's a look at past NFL drafts looking to see what each team needed, who they all took in the first round and in hindsight, who should've gone based on how their pro careers turned out (forgetting about proper coaching and other circumstances). If each team could draft knowing what we all know now and not taking future drafts into account, this is how the first round should've gone. There were 28 picks in the first round of the 1992 draft. In parentheses is the round the player was actually taken. Who Went Who Should've Been Taken 1. Indianapolis Colts

JockBio: Marcus Giles Biography His best sports were baseball, football and wrestling. On the gridiron, Briancombined with tommy vardell to form one of the states best backfield duos http://www.jockbio.com/Bios/Giles/Giles_bio.html
Extractions: Brian approached the sports he played very analytically. He would attend Padres games with his father and brother and ask Bill why players did things in certain ways. They would arrive in time for batting practice and stay until the final out, discussing everything that transpired on the field. Marcus was a different aninmal entirely. After an inning or two, he was ready to explode out of his seat. What Marcus lacked in focus, though, he made up for with boundless energy and enthusiasm. Once he learned how to channel that adrenaline into sports, he became an incredibly hard worker and great athlete in his own right. ON THE RISE Tommy Vardell, 1992 Classic For the 1998 campaign, the Braves promoted Marcus to Macon of the Class-A South Atlantic League. All he did was post one of the greatest single seasons in league history. Marcus captured the SAL MVP after leading the circuit with 37 HR, 108 RBIs, 111 runs, 321 total bases, 85 walks, and a .636 slugging percentage. His .329 batting average ranked third in the league, and he set Macon club records in homers and runs driven in. Baseball America Bolstered by his All-Star nods, Marcus finished the year on a high note. Early in August, he went deep twice in a game against the Jacksonville Suns, then ended the month with 13 RBIs over the final 11 games. For the season, he topped Greenville in batting (.290), hits (133), walks (72), and on-base percentage (.388), and was second in runs (73), doubles (28) and home runs (17). Marcus also demonstrated a new facet of his game, stealing 25 bases in 30 attempts. Though his error total rose to 18, he had established himself as a player ticketed for the majors.

Extractions: Ah yes, those wonderful middle round picks in your fantasy drafts. If you want a way to distinguish the true fantasy football guys from the cheat sheet holding, "who's he play for" team owners, just take a gander at the picks from the middle rounds. During the initial portions of a draft, selections are made and there are few surprises except those accompanied with the terms "homer" or "bonehead". Pretty much everyone who has access to any magazine, website or cheat sheet all know who is within the top forty. Hard to make a difference on your team when so many are following conventional wisdom that likely mirrors your own. And then comes that magic time, the middle rounds. When suddenly the choices are no longer "top receiver, hot quarterback or promising rusher?". When risk increases as well as potential reward or disaster. This is the time that fantasy championships are made. This is also the time that makes for a very long season. This is truly the most fun, challenging and important phase of your draft. The tension of gaining those well-known players is over and the selection of roster depth begins. While those newer to the hobby may think that wonderful first-string will last untouched through the league championship, the reality will prove otherwise. Cheat sheets and most team owners take the previous season heavily into account which proves about 50% accurate on the next season's performance for a top ten player. Where does that other half of the new top ten come from? The middle of the draft of course! Let's take a look at those middle rounders by a few of the more critical positions you will be drafting.

Fantasy Football: Running Backs 1 back in fantasy football? He was first in touchdowns, yards and attempts in tommy vardell, 49ers With Floyd still out (possibly half of the season), http://www.jsonline.com/packer/arc/0814/fanrb724.html
Extractions: Special to Packer Plus July 24, 1996 It has been a very difficult task trying to figure out the role of running backs in fantasy football. When it's time to draft, make sure you understand your league point system well. Does it focus more on touchdowns or performance? If it is based on TDs, consider this: Only 11 backs rushed for 10 or more TDs in 1995 and Derek Loville, with his 10 TDs, appears to be out of a starting job. Bengals back Ki-Jana Carter has potential if he stays healty. Photo/AP More teams are looking to platoon their backs to keep them healthy. This trend has grown every year during the '90s. Grab a stud early if your league is based in TDs. If your league relies more on statistics, you will have more of a selection. Sixteen different backs rushed for 1,000 yards and averaged 15 carries a game. There were also a whopping 23 running backs with at least 40 receptions last year. Nowadays if a back is not a bruiser that can handle the ball nearly 20 times per game, he needs to be able to catch the ball well to stay on the field. Whichever way your league works, the main theme should remain the same. Load up on running backs. Gain depth. Look back at last year. Who was the lucky owner that took Curtis Martin or Terrell Davis? Chances are it was an owner that had many running backs.
Midpoint Grades That s the beauty of fantasy football. Since we re almost at midseason, quartet of backs Eddie George, Robert Smith, James Stewart and tommy vardell. http://www.jsonline.com/packer/arc/13097/fgrad1023.html
Extractions: Special to Packer Plus Oct. 23, 1996 Coming out of the draft, most owners and general managers liked their fantasy teams. Some started the trash talking early, asking if they could take the championship trophy home with them. Halfway through the NFL season, these same owners and GMs are sitting back and re-evaluating their teams performance to date. The owner that drafted Steve Young, Chris Warren, Mark Chmura and Eric Metcalf had to be an early favorite. But as ESPNs Chris Berman says, "That's why they play the games." After an early-season injury to Young, and sub-par performances from Warren, Chewy and Metcalf, the once-confident owner is actively seeking trades and combing the waiver wire. That's the beauty of fantasy football. Since we're almost at mid-season, it's time to evaluate the Packer Plus Fantasy Football League. There has been very little trading, although the action on the waver wire has been hot. Here are the progress reports, with teams in order of how they picked in the draft: Len Kasper, 4th place, 304 points
