Spin - 101100 - Eagles D; Randle; Steelers' QB NFL football news, daily opinion, editorial commentary and fan polls. Vikings DL john randle. Though the Vikings are undefeated at 50, http://archive.profootballweekly.com/content/archives/features_2000/spin_101100.
Extractions: Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000 Vikings DL John Randle ProFootballWeekly.com asks contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum for his views on the hottest topics in the NFL. Everyone talks about the Baltimore, Miami and Tampa Bay defenses, but the Philadelphia defense has quietly given up very few points. The Eagles "D" ranks seventh overall in the league, fourth against the pass. The unit has allowed only three touchdowns through the air, third lowest in the league. And only one of their six opponents has thrown for more than 250 yards. Philadelphia ranks seventh in the NFL in sack percentage. The pass rush is led by DE Hugh Douglas (8 1/2 sacks) and rookie DT Corey Simon (five sacks), who rank second and fifth respectively in the league. With the change, Tony Williams and rookie Chris Hovan were able to start inside. Head coach Dennis Green credited the move for stopping the Bucs on many key third downs and holding them to only 63 yards rushing. Steelers head coach Bill Cowher refused to discuss the specifics of his decision, but he did hint that the team must get the ball downfield more. Stewart eschewed the deep pass the last two weeks, relying mostly on safe, short throws or taking off running when his receivers were covered.
Who's Having More Fun? john randle. How does one best describe the Viking defensive lineman? In ouropinion daily columns opinions on general football topics http://archive.profootballweekly.com/content/archives/features_1998/schleiden_11
Extractions: As published in print Nov. 23 Vikings' John Randle John Randle. How does one best describe the Viking defensive lineman? Is he truly the trash-talking, face-painting, QB-chasing madman whom NFL fans love to watch on Sunday afternoons? Yes. But allow me to let you in on a little secret. A secret that Randle may not want publicized. Joining the NFL guys was a pack of children who were invited by a fifth-grader named Devin Morris. Morris had won a contest sponsored by Fox and the NFL, beating out more than 49,000 entrants. His prize: a chance for himself and 19 friends to play a flag football game with the pros. As the kids ran around the field before the game, exulting in the joy of being out of school early and knowing they were about to be the envy of every school-age sports fan in America, the NFL players shot commercials, did interviews and interacted with the children. Morris said that his only goal for the day was to have fun. Someone should have clued him in on the psyche of NFL players.

The pressure is on Mike Holmgren to bring his rebuilding plan in Seattle to fruition MIKE HOLMGREN LEANED back from the breakfast table at the NFL owners' meetings last March in Palm Desert, Calif., adjusted his sunglasses, placed his hands behind his head, and seemingly looked into the future. Wearing shorts, a wild print shirt, and loafers without socks, Holmgren could have been Jimmy Buffet in Margaritaville. Once the 2001 NFL season begins, however, Holmgren will be anything but a picture of Caribbean relaxation. Holmgren does his business in the Pacific Northwest these days, not along the Wisconsin tundra, but the goals are the same. He knows where he wants to take his Seattle Seahawks (to the Super Bowl), he knows when he wants it to happen (now), and he has the power to do it his way as both the general manager and coach.

Extractions: Friday, July 29, 2005 "Heartbreaking," said Reid, a senior linebacker for Kansas' football team. "We had it won." Reid also remembers the Texas Tech game. "A real kick in the butt," he said. And there was a lot more of that last year for the star-crossed Jayhawks, who couldn't seem to win for losing. 2004 went in the book as just a 4-7 year, Kansas' ninth losing season in a row, but to Reid and the rest of the Jayhawks, the bottom line doesn't begin to tell the story. Only one of those seven losses was a blowout, a 41-10 drubbing at second-ranked Oklahoma. The other six defeats were by an average of 4.8 points. Many came in agonizing fashion. If the Jayhawks had found a way to turn two of those L's into W's, they could have gone bowling for the second time since 1995. "Shoulda, coulda, woulda," Reid said with a shrug. "We've just got to turn it around and do things right this year."

Extractions: The initial Indiana football team plays its first game and loses to Franklin, 10-8. The squad, captained by Harry Wise, its fullback, went into its first game, "unaware of the bruising body contact that would ensue," carrying "only one substitute, a sophomore named Ellis." The team complained that it was hampered by having no reserves to play against in practice. The campus newspaper challenged the student body: "If the boys of Indiana University have any pride in college athletics, let them go to the grounds, divest themselves of coats and vests and give the players practice."
