They have evolved into polar opposites, yang and yin, incredibly good and impossibly bad. Ryan Leaf's latest controversy involved golfing with an injured wrist. "Ryan and I still talk, still remain friends," Manning said Wednesday on a national conference call. "We really don't talk about our individual situations. I'm not old enough to give anybody advice. I'm 24 years old. I'm still learning myself, trying to figure a lot of things out." Where, then, does that leave Leaf?

Washington used its longest drive of the season, a 14-play, 71-yard drive in 7:53, to jump on the scoreboard in the first quarter and take a 7-0 lead. After a Washington State punt, UW quarterback Brock Huard threw an interception that led to WSU's Michael Black's eight-yard TD run. Huard went on to throw four more interceptions that led to 17 Cougar points. The Huskies came out in the second half ready for a battle after the 17-7 halftime deficit. Down 24-7, the Dawgs scored twice as senior Fred Coleman caught a 38-yard TD pass from Huard and Tony Parrish picked off a Leaf pass, returning it 32 yards to bring the Huskies within three, 24-21. The Cougars struck back quickly as they marched 80 yards in 2:06, culminating in a 50-yard TD pass from Leaf to Chris Jackson. The Huskies did not give up, scoring 3:43 later on a 17-yard TD pass from Huard to Mike Reed to bring UW within three once again, 31-28. However, the Cougars controlled the fourth quarter, scoring twice to up the score to 41-28. The Cougars held the ball for 10:04 of the 15-minute quarter. Washington got on the board with nine seconds remaining when senior Jerome Pathon caught a 32-yard TD from Huard to bring the score to 41-35. The Huskies' ensuing onside kick was recovered by the Cougars, thus clinching the game for Washington State and its first Rose Bowl berth in 67 years.

Extractions: Before we consider the present, let's remember that Ryan Leaf was voted in 2003 with the dubious distinction as the "biggest bust in NFL history. "Who could have seen it coming? the pundits ask. Actually, it's not a tough one to answerthose who know Brain Typing. And here we are in 2004, and Peyton Manning has been voted MVP of the NFL and 1st-team Pro Bowl quarterback! No QB in the NFL can audiblize at the line as does Manning. Only an ESTP/FEIR has the mental and spatial capacity to perform as has Peyton, and he is the hardest working ESTP QB perhaps evermentally and physically. NO OTHER BRAIN TYPE can call plays from the line of scrimmage as can the ESTP, and especially Peyton Manning. In conclusion, it's prudent to listen carefully when someone proficient in Brain Typing speaks of someones future performance. This information transcends any other methodology deciphering mental, motor and spatial behaviors. In addition, anyone who studies Brain Typing carefully can learn to do what JN did with Peyton Manning, and Ryan Leaf.

Saving Project Ryan NFL football news, daily opinion, editorial commentary and fan polls. If you were Chargers GM Bobby Beathard, what would you do with ryan leaf? http://archive.profootballweekly.com/content/archives/features_1999/neely_112299
Extractions: Ryan Leaf We were talking here in the palatial Pro Football Weekly offices not that long ago, and one of my esteemed colleagues asked me a question: If you were Chargers GM Bobby Beathard, what would you do with Ryan Leaf? There may be no greater dilemma in the NFL today than that one. Leaf, the second overall pick in the 1998 draft, has been a disappointment on the field, playing poorly as a rookie before being benched and then suffering a training-camp injury in July that has kept him on the sideline this season. But the bigger problem is that he seems to be a clueless jackass off the field. His indiscretions are too numerous to list here. Believe me. I tried. Leaf is currently serving a four-game suspension that resulted from an incident in which he reportedly yelled and cursed at Beathard and a coach. So the Chargers are essentially stuck with Leaf through the 2000 season. At that point, he can void the remaining three years on his contract. The Chargers would then have the option of paying a bonus to buy back two years at a higher price or letting Leaf become a restricted free agent. Before you try to beat Leaf into submission, Bobby, think of it this way: Leaf has gotten himself into jams in Pullman, Wash., and Big Fork, Mont. How long is he going to be able to stay out of trouble in Amsterdam?

Extractions: Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999 Shall we count the ways? Pro Football Weekly Leaf was suspended for four weeks because of his latest outburst. What did he do? He took that cheerleader fiancée of his and went on vacation, knowing that when his punishment is up at the end of November, the Chargers will be willing to give him another chance. Leaf gets paid millions, dates a cheerleader, lives in beautiful San Diego and can yell at whomever he wants without a worry of being fired. To me, the choice is simple. I want to be Ryan Leaf.
