The striker was attempting to make a comeback from injury in the reserves on Tuesday, but his injured foot reacted in a negative manner. He is now out of their Uefa Cup clash with Dinamo Bucharest on Thursday and is a major doubt for Monday's clash with Arsenal . "His toe is still sore and we need to get him some games to get him up to match speed," said Moyes. "We thought we could squeeze in 45 minutes but he suffered a setback." West Ham chairman Terence Brown believes that Alan Pardew has transformed The Hammers into a Premiership force. Brown paid tribute to the former Reading manager who has overseen a turbulent period in the club's history following the East London side's relegation in 2003. However, following a failed play-off campaign in 2004, The Hammers regained their Premiership status by winning last season's play-off final and Monday's 4-0 win over Aston Villa Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina has hailed Jamie Carragher as one of the best defenders in the world. Reina has been impressed by the impact of Carragher since moving to Anfield. Reina has kept three clean sheets in The Premiership so far this term and he believes Carragher has played a major part in their defensive success, including the Champions League win over

Help Oh dear. What a sorry state Spanish and Italian football must be in if this game is representative of the best league in the world. But then why bother with entertaining football when results are everything to teams such as Southampton and Charlton down near the bottom of the Premiership table? Not all fans swallow everything, however, and that is probably why there were almost 10,000 fewer at St Mary's yesterday than there were for the visit of Chelsea less than a month ago. Maybe they knew two teams with only nine goals between them were going to serve up a stinker. How right they were. Article continues And how frustrating it must have been for Southampton manager Gordon Strachan, who attempted to arrest his side's slide by making three significant changes to his starting line-up - dropping goalkeeper Paul Jones, star striker James Beattie and club captain Jason Dodd - before urging his players on from the touchline throughout this excuse for a match. He gambled, but got nothing much in return.

But in the last 2 weeks they have caught fire scoring 2 defensive touchdowns, forcing a total of 9 turnovers along with 9 sacks. This week vs. Detroit could be another strong play for the improving Colts defense. Over the last 3 weeks, Carolina LB Will Witherspoon and Chicago LB Lance Briggs are 1-2 in basic scoring for the LB position. What is significant about this is they are stepping up for injured team mates Dan Morgan and Brian Urlacher, and should be strong plays the rest of the season. Defensive Linemen IND- Robert Mathis NE - Ty Warren DAL - Ellis is getting his second wind and starting to post numbers comparable to early in the 2004 season. No more holding the clipboard, and definitely no splitting snaps. It's his show. And then, like a cruel replay of his freshman season, everything goes to hell. [ Read article Perhaps one of the most disarming athletes on campus, Jason Johnson wrapped up his senior season as the UA's single-season passing leader, with 3,327 yards. But records meant little to Johnson this season, as the team stumbled to a 4-8 record and capped off the second-straight season without a Pac-10 win at home. To make matters worse, Johnson and his teammates had to weather a storm of publicity surrounding their coach John Mackovic and his ability to retain his job despite a near-mutiny by almost half the team. [ Read article Wade named football team MVP At the football team's annual awards banquet Sunday night, Arizona senior receiver Bobby Wade, the school's all-time career receptions leader with 230 catches, was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Wade set the UA single-season mark this year with 93 receptions, breaking the mark of 88 set by Dennis Northcutt in 1999. Wade finished with 1,389 yards this year and is the UA career record holder in that category with 3,351 yards in his four-year career. [

MOMENT FOR the Philadelphia Eagles arrived only minutes into the wideout's introductory news conference. Head coach Andy Reid innocuously mispronounced the first name of his prized addition, prompting the outspoken Terrell Owens to interrupt. "It's turrULL" Owens said, patting his boss on the back. Unaccustomed to being upstaged by one of his subjects, especially one flown in on a private jet, Reid turned the uneasiness to laughter with a compromise. "From now on," Reid said, "it's T.O."

The quarterback is accountable to the coach. The coach is accountable to the university president. The president is accountable to the alumni. And the alumni are accountable to ... well, that seems to be a problem these days. Regardless, your intrepid college football reporter is accountable to his readers. With that in mind, I would like to caution you before you read the 2003 season preview: I did not have a good year in 2002. So please take my predictions with a grain of salt, followed by a shot of tequila (a practice which, now that I think about it, may explain the quagmire that was my 2002 season).

He was a well known Hazard painter for 65 years. His painter's outfit, hat and trademark cigar were a familiar site in the area. Edwards was a gifted athlete. He made the Hazard High School Football team while in the 7th and 8th grades and was a four year starter from 1932-1935. He once scored 40 points against Buckhorn, but he'll best be remembered for kicking a football over a hundred yards during a game against Benham High school in 1934. Pappy's famous football kick even gained national attention from Ripley's Believe It Or Not . Edwards was a starter on the Hazard Basketball team from 1933 through 1935 and went to the State Tournament in both 1933 and 1934. Edwards was voted all regional honors in the State Tournament two years in a row. Pappy played basketball and football at Translyvania University as a Freshman and won the Intramural boxing championship and fought in the Golden Gloves competition in Lexington. He was Captain of an All State Junior College team in 1938. He played for the Hazard Junior College, and later Jones Junior College in Mississippi. But the road to collegiate glory was marked by near tragedy in September 1938. A pilot was looking for someone to fly with to Cleveland, Ohio to pick up some parts. It would be Pappy's first airplane ride. The plane crashed on the C.V. Whitney Farm in Lexington. Edwards was critically injured with a broken back and fractured skull. He spent 23 days in the hospital. He later would fly again in the service during the war.
