Report by : Ken Foster With Stockport and Bury having home games called off on (ironically) a beautiful day, I was anticipating a big crowd at Maine Road. We arrived at the ground just before 2 o'clock and decided to have a look round the back of the Kippax. The familier rustic brick wall still survives on the periphery but is now dwarfed by the technological structure possessing a tubular look similar to the back of the one at Elland Road. We carried on round through the ginnel that joins the Car Park to the Platt Lane (sorry Umbro) stand. I resisted the temptation to buy King of the Kippax as I recently read that Dave Wallace was a Bon Jovi fan! I noticed another fanzine on sale which didn't seem to be This Charming Fan or Bert Trautman's Helmet (any ideas Paul?).

The Southeastern Conference has built a reputation over the years for producing some of the best linemen in the nation. Former Vandy/ Dallas Cowboys lineman Bob Asher gets honorable mention. Here are the rankings of the all-time best offensive linemen in the SEC. TOMORROW: Defensive linemen. 1. LEE ROY JORDAN, ALABAMA: Not only is Lee Roy Jordan the best offensive lineman in the history of the Southeastern Conference, but he is also the best linebacker. Extractions: Box Score Dover, DE After traveling the long road for the last four weeks, the Wesley Wolverines were happy to be back in the friendly confines of Wolverine Stadium in Dover. There to greet them were the Wolverine faithful, including many Alumni back for the annual homecoming gathering. With the Wolverine nation looking on, Wesley dismantled the visiting Builders from Newport News Apprentice 55-7. Star running back, Kevin Nelson, again showed his mettle rushing for 142 yards on 14 carries, including touchdown runs of 60 and 18 yards. Reserve running back Ken Busch scored three touchdowns, including two special team scores in the rout. The Wolverines opened the scoring early in the first quarter returning a botched punt attempt by the Builder's Ricky Doles for a touchdown. Doles, a standout receiver and return man for the Builder's stepped to his right in an attempt to draw fake punt suspicions from the Wolverines. As he pulled up to punt the ball, a little slip forced the punt straight up in the air then landing behind the line of scrimmage. A Builder teammate touched the ball in an apparent attempt to down the ball, not realizing that it was still behind the line of scrimmage and thus a live ball.

Extractions: Play-off final photos Player ratings Palace reaction West Ham reaction Neil Shipperley's scrambled second-half strike sent Crystal Palace back into the Premiership at West Ham's expense. Palace captain Shipperley scored from close range after 61 minutes as West Ham goalkeeper Stephen Bywater failed to hold Andy Johnson's shot. It capped a remarkable transformation under manager Iain Dowie and landed a potential £30m cash jackpot. Palace keeper Nico Vaesen kept West Ham at bay with fine saves from Bobby Zamora and Steve Lomas. Palace's season has been turned around after struggling at the wrong end of the First Division until Dowie's appointment in December. And the ironic twist was that it was only an injury-time goal from West Ham's Brian Deane at Wigan on the final day of the league season that allowed Palace to sneak into the play-offs.

Speaking of D, in the last six games, the Ravens defense has only allowed five touchdowns while at the same time scoring four touchdowns themselves on returns. That is simply awesome. To top it off, the Ravens are 7-0 this season when they snatch an interception, and 0-3 when they don't. Another intriguing game to keep your remote glued to is Jacksonville at Minnesota. These are two teams both fighting for their shot at the playoffs, and by the way both squads have managed to pull out wins in the final seconds, this game could come down to who is the last team to have the ball. Last week, the predictions were right on the mark as former Pro Bowler Lomas Brown and I both picked 13 out of 16 games correctly while ESPN NFL 2K5 also had its best week with a 12-4 mark. Madden finished with an 8-8 record for the week, and is now only ahead of ESPN for the season by one game.

That's right, it's now two men vs. two machines as I will continue to do my picks each and every week, and now you also get the benefit of seeing the additional predictions of a man who was down in the trenches for 18 seasons. And Lo-Brown comes out swinging, predicting Arizona to upset the Seahawks, the Jets over New England, and Tennessee over Minnesota. Now that's what I call a debut. Personally, I think the Jets are extremely overrated. I know it's only the fourth time in NFL history where two undefeated teams with at least 5 wins apiece are facing off, but the Jets should've lost to both the Bills and the 49ers, two teams that have combined for two wins this season. Meanwhile, the Patriots have already beaten the Colts and the Seahawks. They will lose this season, but I'm looking at next week's game against the upstart Steelers as the closer game than this week against the Jets. Last week, man and machine all tied, going 9-5. Once again, I picked the Chiefs to win, and once again, they let me down. There's no way I'm taking them against the Falcons, so you know what that means. If history repeats itself, chalk it down as a Chiefs victory.

Extractions: by Herd Offensive Rookie of the Year This really is a two man race between QB Kenny Stabler and RB Eddie Ray. Stabler, the highly touted rookie out of Alabama, hasn't disappointed anyone in his first season and is on his way to what will end up being one the best rookie seasons by a QB ever. He's completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 1874 yards and 10 scores with only 2 picks. His QB rating of 93.4 ranks 4th in the league right now and he has his Kansas City team in the hunt for a division title. This is Stabler's award to lose at this point. The player offering the biggest challenge to Stabler is Eddie Ray from St. Louis. The 6'1" 208lb. RB is a North/South runner with sprinter speed and has come out of nowhere to dominate in this league. Despite playing for a 2-6 team, the rookie has rushed for 871 yards (2nd in the League) and 5 Tds, while adding 22 catches for 189 yards and a pair of scores. The one area Ray must work on is holding on to the football, although most coaches would overlook his league leading 5 fumbles considering the production.

"Oh, absolutely not," Mitchell said, almost laughing at the impertinence of the query. "No. Not at all. "Not by any means do I see them paralyzing our offense. It's hard for a defensive lineman, I don't care how good he is, to paralyze an offense." Mitchell, who scored 35 on the 50-question Wonderlic intelligence test in 1997, had been asked point-blank if he thought two of the New York Giants' defensive linemen, left end Michael Strahan and right tackle Keith Hamilton, could render the Ravens' offense null and void in Super Bowl XXXV later this afternoon at Raymond James Stadium.
